The Chazz GI Joe Review!

Alright, it’s time for another not All My Children, but the summer movie update!

Just saw G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra starring the guy from that fight movie along with one of those Wayans brothers and that guy from Oz, another guy from 3rd Rock from the Sun, two of those guys from the Mummy, the woman from the Amityville Horror, the guy from Doctor Who, and the woman from Factory Girl (haven’t seen it)

All I can say is…this movie rocked!

SPOILER SPACE!!!!!

(keep scrolling down, no peeking

It rocked if you’re a twelve year old. For me, who used to love the cartoon (and did a spot on impression of Cobra Commander “DESTRO!” I’d say I was glad to finally have a summer movie full of action, not too heavy on the plot but full of CGI that made the makers of the film justify its budget, which I think was around $170 million. Don’t get me wrong, there were some good moments such as….uh….well….the battle suits were nice, the doctor who sounded as if he were in a kung fu movie, not an overbudgeted summer flick, the explosion scene (that was rad! (or they still using that term now?)) and most of all, freakin’ Dennis Quaid!

There was nothing to that, I just thought I say it.

Here’s the plot in a few words; cybernetic bugs that eat metal are in small containers which are being transported by a Special Ops unit when a ship with nasty bad guys intercept convoy and start taking people out, one by one. That is until that guy, that girl and that Oz guy save the Ops and they join the Joes. That’s where the ‘fun’ begins. The film has several flashbacks that take you to certain points in the character’s lives, but just enough for you to take a potty or popcorn break.

The CGI was probably the best part, since you won’t expect to see hard-hitting characterization in this flick. Hey, it’s a summer movie. What did you expect? Al Pacino as Cobra Commander? (hmm, wouldn’t be bad…) As for the acting, it passed. It wasn’t the greatest, but if it keeps your hyperactive teenager quiet for two hours, it’s worth it. You can expect to see a sequel, unlike the ‘attempt’ to revive the Planet of the Apes back in 2001. Besides, the end of the movie had a twist, which gave me a reason why I should watch it again.

So I give this movie a “Ho Joe!” Uh, wait a minute…. “Yo Joe!”
